as a film major who loves watching movies, there are a few rules of thumb (or is it rule of thumbs?) that i tend to stick by:
1: Movies based on Videogames WILL inevitably suck (unless i made them, b/c i actually CARE about the story of the game)
2: Sequels are never as good as the original (exceptions include late 80's early 90's saga films)
3: wait about 20=5-40 years before making a remake of a film.
